Excel 2003 Introduction (1 Day Course)
Brief Outline:
This course covers the ‘full range’ of the basics in Microsoft Excel 2003.
We cater for all students in this course, whether they have been self-taught, have been using Excel simply for a while, or have no experience at all in the program.
In the course all students create a full spreadsheet, edit and format the spreadsheet to make it look more presentable, and create some basic charts and then print their result.
This course is a great springboard into using Excel to its maximum advantage.
Detailed Outcomes:
By the end of your learning, you will be able to:
- Describe Excel and its screen layout – menus, toolbar.
- Set up a spreadsheet, enter data & simple formulas.
- Navigate with mouse and keys.
- Change the display & freeze parts of spreadsheets.
- Edit a spreadsheet.
- Cut, paste & copy formulas.
- Format a spreadsheet.
- Create & edit charts.
- Print the spreadsheet & charts.
- Use shortcuts & quick-entry techniques.
Recommended Prior Experience (Prerequisites):
No experience in using Excel is required nor assumed. Participants are expected to have some knowledge of and experience with a Windows PC.

Excel 2003 Intermediate (1 Day Course)
Brief Outline:
This course goes beyond the basics and focuses on more in-depth examples of formulas, formatting and charting.
How to work with larger spreadsheets more efficiently and how to analyse raw data are some of the important features covered. Many shortcuts and time-saving techniques used in creating multi-level spreadsheets are also covered.
Detailed Outcomes:
By the end of your learning, you will be able to:
- Apply more advanced charting features.
- Use absolute references in formulas.
- Assign name ranges to make formulas easier.
- Group & outline large data to summarise it easily.
- Use sheets, calculate across sheets and link to files.
- Sort and arrange data.
- Create SubTotals from raw data.
- Create Pivot Tables from raw data.
- Create ‘What If’ formulas (Goal Seek and Solver).

Excel 2003 Advanced (1 Day Course)
Brief Outline:
Some of the more complex aspects of Excel 2003 are covered in this Advanced course. You’ll learn about Excel’s many powerful advanced formulas as well as database features.
How macros work, how to create and edit macros, and how to customise the toolbars to run macros are covered; there’s even an introduction to VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).
You’ll also learn how to create more user-friendly spreadsheets with data validation and conditional formatting.

By the end of your learning, you will be able to:
- Import other types of files & manipulate them.
- Use advanced formulas (text, IF, COUNTIF, etc).
- Use LookUp functions.
- Use Excel’s database features.
- Create & work with macros.
- Customise the toolbars & menus.
- Use data validation and conditional formatting.
- Use Visual Basic to create an application.
- Apply protection to spreadsheets.
- Integrate Excel with other applications.
