Publisher Essentials & Beyond (1 Day Course)
Brief Outline:
Microsoft Publisher is great for creating brochures, flyers, newsletters, web sites, price lists, and other publications.
This course focuses on planning your publication from the pre-computer stage so that no time is wasted. You will look at techniques for combining and formatting graphics and text for the most effective presentation of your message.
In this course you examine the different ways to output your publication and touch on converting your publication to a web site for online viewing and to Acrobat PDF for sending to a commercial printer.
Bring along your questions and problems and if you like examples of what you’ve been producing. We can then show you how to create or improve on those designs with Publisher. You will create a typical example of a newsletter that incorporates lots of design elements.
Detailed Outcomes:
By the end of your learning, you will be able to:
- State principles of modern design, (e.g. type for body text, white space, 'live' and 'dead' areas of pages, text types, copy-fitting, effectiveness, etc).
- Plan your design using rough sketches.
- Investigate different layout designs.
- Use text frames and layout guides.
- Format text using tabs, bullets and various other methods.
- Use different layout techniques.
- Insert clipart, images and WordArt.
- Format graphics (text wrap, cropping, etc).
- Review your publication and revisit different layouts.
- State different methods for sending your file to a commercial printer.
- Convert your publication to web pages.
Recommended Prior Experience (Prerequisites):
No experience in using Publisher is required nor assumed. Participants are expected to have a sound knowledge of and experience with a Windows PC. Also, CLASS Training Introductory courses or some experience with Word would be an advantage.

Publisher Advanced (1 Day Course)
Brief Outline:
This course takes you to the next level of working with Microsoft Publisher. After a revision of the important shortcuts, we will cover more advanced techniques in combining text and graphics and producing publications.
We’ll look at how to work with tables, templates and the Master Page, which will ‘speed up’ production of your publications. We’ll also look at typical projects you can carry out, including how to create a folded, stapled booklet easily, as well as how to include unique numbers on raffle tickets or vouchers. Creating and outputting an e-mail newsletter is also covered.

By the end of your learning, you will be able to:
- Revise important Publisher shortcuts.
- Work with different graphics (BMP, WMF, JPG).
- Minimise sizes of files, especially graphics.
- Create, edit and format tables.
- Create, edit and format templates.
- Create libraries of commonly used objects.
- Work with the Master Page to speed up formatting.
- Create booklets automatically.
- Add tracking numbers to multiple documents, such as raffle tickets and vouchers.
- Create and output an e-mail newsletter.
- Output your publication to PDF and web pages.
