General Outline
This course takes you quickly through the basics of Windows, including the shortcuts for how to use the mouse, keyboard and other Windows elements, such as the task bar and Start button.

Important aspects of file management is a major part of the course. You will be shown how to explore and navigate your hard disc and PC, how to create and edit folders, and how to arrange your hard disc so it is better organised. You will then learn how to create and save simple documents into the folders you created. You are then taken through how to set up a filing system in Windows, including creating, managing and fixing up your files and folders.

You will use typical Windows applications to open and edit the documents, and you will also find out how to search for a document if you’ve lost it. Lastly, you will also learn about the all-important Recycle Bin, used for deleting and restoring files and folders.

How to create and arrange shortcuts on the screen and how to customise the Start button and Taskbar are covered in the exercises.

The important aspects of the Windows Control Panel, including looking at your computer’s devices, customising the screen saver, display settings, virtual memory, and the fonts installed also form part of the course.

Important tasks that should be carried out frequently include cleaning up the hard disc so that your PC runs more quickly. Finding and deleting temporary files, using ScanDisk and using Defrag are thus important exercises will complete during the course.

The course will definitely maximise your confidence in using Windows on your computer.

Windows: General Information

Previous Experience Recommended
No particular experience is required, however some experience with a Windows PC is a benefit.

Class Size
The number of trainees is restricted to a maximum of 10, or as required by your organisation. Each trainee is trained on a Pentium 4 PC with 17" flat-screen monitor and access to broadband Internet, printing and demonstration facilities.
