General Outline
This course concentrates on the basics in creating, editing and formatting a database. The meanings of database terms such as ‘field’, ‘record’, ‘query’ and so on, are covered. You are taken through the planning process in setting up a database, and then how to set it up in Access. How to create and format the database fields, how to enter data and create records, and the important aspects of importing data are covered.

You are then taken through creating and formatting forms and reports, as well as their uses and applications. Queries, what they are, and how they work, are then covered in a number of exercises, including creating basic and more advanced examples. The last exercise looks at the merging of data with Microsoft Word documents to create mailing labels and form letters.

(1 day or 2 evenings)

General Course Outline

This course builds on the Introductory level and concentrates on creating linked tables and how to work with them. The concepts of linking tables, relationships, and creating queries to combine and extract data are covered in the hands-on exercises. Creating and editing forms and reports is revisited but this time in terms of the linked tables and data relationships. Forms and subforms are covered to show you how to extend the functionality of your database.

You are then taken through other powerful ways of validating data and improving the user-friendliness of your database. Extending from this is the addition of Windows forms on the database to create drop downs, check boxes, and so on, for easy selection and manipulation of data.
