General Outline

This course concentrates on the simple basics of using a spreadsheet application. You will be taken through what’s meant by a ‘spreadsheet’, and will see how it works and how to create one. Then, the basic aspects of adding text and numbers, as well as simple formulas, to the spreadsheet will be covered in the hands-on exercises.

Editing and formatting data will be covered, allowing you to see how easy it is to change and manipulate the information on your spreadsheet. Then you will learn how to create charts that will graphically display your data and information. All through the hands-on exercises, you will practise the keyboard shortcuts and mouse shortcuts that will save time and money.

General Outline
This course will take you to the next level of using Excel. The course will mainly concentrate on the more advanced aspects of charting, such as creating a chart with two scales, creating combination charts, and what to do when your chart gives you problems.

The emphasis in the course will also be on the automatic analysis and summary features of Excel on raw data using subtotals, pivot tables and outlining.

You will be taken through more examples of using formulas, how to create more advanced formulas, and how to make creating formulas simple. Formulas that include calculations from different sheets on the workbook are also covered in the hands-on exercises.

Excel Advanced

General Outline
This course is for the power-users of Excel. It takes you through the main aspects of creating macros, how to edit them, and how to create shortcuts for them. More powerful Excel functions, such as IF statements and lookup tables, and when to use them are covered in the exercises. Excel’s statistical functions, accessed through its data analysis pack, are covered in the training manual and will allow you to apply the techniques to your own projects.

Other aspects covered in this course include how to transfer data between Excel and other Office applications using DDE and OLE. The meanings of these are also covered. You are also taken through an introduction to Visual Basic for Excel and protection and locking of spreadsheets.

Previous Experience Recommended
Introductory Course: Experience with a mouse and Windows is recommended.
Intermediate Course: CLASS Training Introductory Course or proven experience with Excel.
Advanced Course: CLASS Training Intermediate Course or proven experience with Excel.

Class Size
The number of trainees is restricted to a maximum of 10, or as required by your organisation. Each trainee is trained on a Pentium 4 PC with 17" flat-screen monitor and access to broadband Internet, printing and demonstration facilities.
